GemState Australian Shepherds is a very small hobby kennel.
Our mission is to do all we can to keep/improve the Australian Shepherd dog in health and temperament.
Our goal is to breed our lines to meet the breed standard....
procreate health, temperament and versatile Aussies.
Both my husband Jim and I grew up on family farms that always had three or four
shepherd type dogs around to eagerly help with the farm chores. Bringing in the cows from the pasture and woods didn't seem
too bad when the dogs where with you, even after dark. These dogs lived long quality lives, 14 to 16 years. This, to
us is the most important thing about having a dog.
Our son James, grew up with all kinds of pets. The dogs were the best at
teaching responsibility, respect, trust, friendship and the joy of accomplishment with a blue ribbon or qualifying score.
Here at GemState Australian Shepherds, we
are all family and friends. All dog people coming together to have fun with our dogs. It could be a early Saturday
morning with Home Boy Obedience,* where as friends we get together to recieve
help, share information and hold classes in both basic obedience and competitve

This little piece of folklore means a lot to me. I think that it tells
a lot about the history of the dog. How important he has become in humans lives
in the last 15,000 years and through that time how we as two different species have become so dependent on each other and
cohabiting, more then any two species in the universe:
God summoned a beast from the fields and He said, Behold people created in my image. Therefore, adore them. You shall protect them in the wilderness,
shepherd their flocks, watch over their children, accompany them wherever they may goeven into civilization. You shall be a companion, an alley, a slave.
To do these things, God said, I endow you with instincts uncommon to other beasts: faithfulness,
devotion, and understanding surpassing that of people. Lest it impair your courage,
you shall never foresee your death. Lest it impair your understanding, you are denied the power of words. Speak to your people only with your mind and through your honest eyes.
Walk by their sides; sleep in their doorways; forage for them; ward off their enemies; carry their burdens; share their afflictions; love them and comfort them. And in return for this, people will fulfill your needs and wantswhich shall be only food, shelter, and
affection.
So be silent and be a friend to people. This shall
by your destiny. So spoke the Lord. And the dog heard and was content.
